Cutter Gauthier Continues Meeting Expectations
Gauthier plays the role of modern power-forward to a T and excels at using his speed and size to generate space in the offensive zone. Gauthier tends to make goalies pay from multiple angles, but his bread and butter seems to be the left-side circle. He can attack the offensive zone in a myriad of ways, usually combining his larger frame and quick feet to beat a defender out wide, or he can cut into the middle of the ice by stickhandling around the defending forwards and drawing opponents onto his person, allowing his teammates to enter the zone and set up. Over the past couple of seasons, his film has shown he sees the ice very well and is capable to be an effective playmaker.

Gauthier absolutely loves to engage in the physical aspect of defending when his opponents have the puck along the boards.
Really excited. For me, he has elite skating ability. The 21-year-old Drysdale was the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft by Anaheim, and he has grown into a puck-moving defenseman who had 32 points during his first full NHL season in 2021-22. After missing nearly all of last season due to injury and getting a late start to this season because of another injury, Drysdale has one goal and four assists in 10 games for Anaheim.
He is opportunistic around the net, positioning himself well for rebound chances or backdoor passes. He can beat defenders with strong power moves to the net and he is a dangerous one-touch scorer who can pounce on loose pucks in the slot or hammer one-timers from the faceoff circle. Gauthier was always considered a fairly safe pick due to his projectable frame and well-rounded game but he took his offense to another level this year and could end up being selected in the top-10 of the 2022 NHL Draft as a result.
Gauthier is a skilled, active player in the offensive zone who has the ability to beat goaltenders with his powerful, accurate shot. Gauthier can make plays off the wall, plays a solid physical game, and is an efficient distributor who utilizes his teammates effectively. His skating is good, not great, but he makes smart reads and maintains strong positioning all over the ice to help drive possession. Gauthier may not have the pure offensive upside that others in this class do but his well-rounded game and high-end shot make him a pretty safe bet as a top-nine NHL forward.
This is not the worst thing in the world, but some fans see someone over six-foot on the ice and expect them to toss their body around. Gauthier projects as a top-6 player with potential to hit it big, but his path towards becoming an elite first-liner is not as clear as some of the guys in the top-5 range. Or at least someone who shoots the puck. Gauthier fits that bill, too.
